Everything people ask before they hire me. Can't find yours? Ask, and you'll get a straight answer.
Where are you based?
Manchester. I work with businesses across the UK and abroad. Everything's done remotely, so where you are doesn't matter.
Is it just you?
Yes. One person, start to finish. The person you message is the person writing the code. If a project needs something I don't do, like photography, I'll say so before we start.
Why pick you over an agency?
You talk to the person doing the work. Prices are fixed and public. And you're not paying for an office, an account manager or a pitch deck.
Do I own the code and design once it's built?
Yes. Full ownership, no exceptions. Take it to another developer if you ever need to. Nothing's locked to me.
Which platforms do you build on?
Framer for business sites, Shopify for stores, and custom code when neither fits. I'll recommend the cheapest one that does the job.
What if I'm not happy?
Not happy within 7 days of kickoff? Full refund, as long as the first design hasn't been signed off.
What's not included in the price?
Platform costs: Framer hosting or your Shopify plan, plus your domain, all paid directly on your own accounts. Copywriting is an add-on at £175 a page, and I don't do photography. Design, development, SEO foundations and 30 days of support after launch are all covered.
What do you need from me to get started?
A clear idea of what you're selling and who you're selling it to. Brand assets if you have them (logo, product images), but if you don't, we'll figure that out together before the clock starts.
Do you set up my domain and email?
The domain, yes. It's connected and secured at launch, registered in your name on your own account. Email, I don't host, but I'll add the records so Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 works with your domain.
Can you look after a site you didn't build?
Yes. Care & Maintenance works on any existing site. It doesn't need to be one I made.
How do I pay?
Half upfront, and the build starts. The rest is due before launch, or 14 days after the site's ready, whichever comes first. Monthly plans are billed in advance.
Do your prices include VAT?
I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT to add. The price you see is the price you pay.
How much does a Framer website cost?
£2,500 for up to 5 pages, 2 rounds of revisions, live in 3 weeks. Framer's hosting is on top, paid directly to them. The first 3 clients pay £1,950, in exchange for a case study.
How much does a Shopify store cost?
£6,000 for a custom theme with 8 page layouts (home, product, collection and so on) and as many products as you sell, with up to 1,000 imported for you. 2 rounds of revisions, live in 8 weeks. Your Shopify plan is paid directly to Shopify. The first 3 clients pay £4,500, in exchange for a case study.
Is hosting included?
No, and that's on purpose. Framer and Shopify host your site themselves, and custom builds are hosted on your own account too. You pay the provider directly, with no markup, and you're never stuck waiting on me to renew anything.
Can I update the site myself?
Yes. That's the point of Framer and Shopify. You get a walkthrough at handover, and if you'd rather not touch it, Care & Maintenance covers changes for you.
Can I start on Framer and add a shop later?
Yes. A few products can go straight onto your Framer site with Shopify's Buy Button. If the shop grows, it moves to its own Shopify store without rebuilding your main site.
What if I need more than the page limit?
Extra pages are £250 each. If you need a lot more, Custom is probably the better fit, and I'll tell you that upfront.
Framer or custom: which do I need?
Framer, unless you need something it can't do: complex integrations, custom functionality, or more content than its CMS handles well. Not sure? Ask. You'll get a straight answer, even if it's the cheaper option.
How long does a website take?
Framer sites take 3 weeks, Shopify stores 8. Custom builds are agreed upfront, usually 4 to 8 weeks depending on scope.
Will I be able to update it myself?
On Framer, yes. Text, images, blog posts and new pages from existing layouts. Custom builds come with a CMS where it makes sense.
Is SEO included?
The technical foundations are: metadata, sitemap, speed and structure. Ongoing SEO work is a separate service.
What happens after launch?
The site's yours, with 30 days of support. Anything that isn't working as built gets fixed, free. After that, Care & Maintenance covers changes, fixes and monitoring every month.
Can you use my existing branding?
Yes. Logo, colours, fonts and tone. No brand yet? I'll pick fonts and colours that fit as part of the design. Logo design isn't something I do, so that's one to sort first.
What do you need from me?
Your content, or a clear idea of it, plus brand assets if you have them. Copywriting is an add-on if you'd rather not write it.
How long until I see results?
Technical fixes can show within weeks. Real ranking movement usually takes three to six months. Anyone promising faster is selling something.
What is AIO?
AI optimisation. Making your site easy for tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews to read, understand and quote. It's built on the same foundations as SEO, so you get both at once.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. Nobody can. What's guaranteed is the work gets done, and you'll see exactly what moved each month.
Can you do SEO on a site you didn't build?
Yes. Framer, Shopify, WordPress or custom. If I can get access to it, I can audit it.
Is the audit worth it if I'm not ready for ongoing SEO?
Yes. You get a prioritised list you can work through yourself or hand to anyone. No obligation to hire me for the fixes.
Is there a minimum term?
Ongoing SEO has a 3 month minimum, because that's how long results take to show. After that it's month to month, and you can cancel anytime.
Do I need new content, or can you fix what I have?
What you have, first. Most sites have pages that should rank but don't, and fixing those is quicker than writing new ones.
Do you build backlinks?
Not the spammy kind. I'll show you where good links can come from, like partners, press and directories that matter. Buying links is how sites get penalised.
What counts as a change?
One task on one page. Updating text or images, adding a page from a layout the site already has, adding or moving a section, setting up a product or collection, or fixing something that's broken. New designs, new features and integrations are quoted separately, at a fixed price.
Do unused changes roll over?
No. It keeps things simple, and stops a backlog of banked changes turning into a surprise project.
What's the difference between Essential and Plus?
Essential keeps the site running. Plus is the same care with more headroom: more changes, faster turnaround, a reply within 1 working day when something breaks, and one proactive fix a month. Neither is growth work. That's what SEO and Conversion Optimisation are for.
Can I cancel?
Anytime. No contract. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the month you've already paid for.
Which platforms can you migrate from?
WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, WooCommerce, Magento and most custom builds. If it has a URL, it can be moved.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
Not if it's done properly. Every old URL gets redirected to its new page, and your titles, descriptions and content come across. A small wobble in the first few weeks is normal. A lasting drop means something was missed.
Will my site go down during the move?
No. The new site is built on a private staging link, and the switch itself usually takes minutes.
Can you redesign the site at the same time?
Yes, and it's usually worth it. You're rebuilding anyway, so a redesign costs less now than later.
How long does a migration take?
Most take 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the number of pages and products, and how much is being redesigned.
Where can you migrate to?
Framer for business sites, Shopify for stores, or a custom build when neither fits.
Why Shopify?
It's reliable, fast, secure and easy to run day to day, with the biggest app ecosystem of any ecommerce platform. For most stores, nothing else comes close.
Can you move my store from another platform?
Yes. WooCommerce, Squarespace, Wix, BigCommerce and others. Products, customers and redirects all come across. Website Migration covers how that works.
Can I manage the store myself?
Yes. Products, prices, sales and collections are all yours to change. You get a walkthrough at handover.
How long does a store take?
8 weeks from kickoff to launch, with 2 rounds of revisions. Custom builds are agreed upfront.
What does Shopify cost to run?
Shopify's Basic plan is £19/month on annual billing, paid directly to Shopify. On top of that: any paid apps you choose, and card fees on each sale.
How many products can I have?
As many as you sell. The limit on Shopify builds is page layouts, not products.
What if I've only got a few products?
A full store might be overkill. A few products can sit on a Framer site with Shopify's Buy Button, for a fraction of the cost.
Which payment options can you set up?
Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Klarna, plus shipping rates and tax.
Do you do product photography or descriptions?
Photography, no. Product descriptions can be written as an add-on, or you'll get a template so they stay consistent.
How much traffic do I need?
For A/B testing, around 30,000 sessions a month, or tests take too long to trust. Below that, ongoing work is shipped fixes, measured against the month before. Fixing obvious leaks works at any size.
Do you guarantee a lift?
No. Nobody honest can. What's guaranteed is that every change is measured, so you'll know what worked and what didn't.
What do you need access to?
Your analytics, plus your store or site admin. If tracking isn't set up properly, that gets fixed first.
Does it work on sites you didn't build?
Yes. Shopify, Framer, WordPress or custom.
How is this different from SEO?
SEO brings people to the site. Conversion optimisation gets more of them to buy once they're there. They work best together.
What's a good conversion rate?
It depends on what you sell. Most online stores sit between 1% and 3%. The number that matters is whether yours is going up.
Do you work on sites you didn't build?
That's the whole point. Shopify, Framer, WordPress, Astro, Next.js and most custom builds.
What if the code's a mess?
Most are, a bit. You'll get an honest assessment of what's worth fixing and what's worth replacing.
How is code support priced?
£600 a day, or £350 for half a day, with each job scoped before the work starts. For regular work, Care & Maintenance from £125/month is usually better value.
Can you work alongside my existing developer?
Yes. Code reviews, a second pair of hands, or the jobs they don't have time for.
How quickly can you start?
Small jobs usually within a week or two. Every job gets a start date before you agree to anything.
Will I get access to the code?
You should already have it. If you don't, getting it back is usually the first job.
Tell me what you're working with and what needs to change. I'll tell you if I can help, and what it costs.
